MACKENZIE CANFIELD, LCSW

She/Her

As we walk through life, experiences are constantly being added to our “backpacks.” Our backpacks, at times, feel particularly heavy and uncomfortable, subsequently making daily experiences feel burdensome. I see therapy as a space to take off your backpack - a time to empty its parts and explore them with curiosity and self-compassion, hopefully putting them back inside feeling a little lighter. During sessions, I aim to hold space for all parts of your backpack, carrying them with you in ways that are collaborative and affirming.

My therapeutic approach is highly individualized, strengths-based, and eclectic. My sessions are typically informed by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I also utilize trauma-informed practices and mindfulness-based strategies, and I approach challenges from a harm reduction lens. I show up to sessions with authenticity, warmth, and humor, and I always look forward to adapting these values to each session’s unique vibe.

I work with teens, young adults, and adults, along with couples and families. I have experience working with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, OCD, mood cycling, simple & complex trauma, and relational stress. In addition, I have helped many people who experience psychosis as well as those who struggle with their relationship to substances and related behaviors.

Starting therapy can be a difficult and vulnerable experience, and I am here to hold space for any, and all, emotions with you. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions as you start, and continue, this journey of taking off your backpack. All inquiries are welcome. mackenzie@humboldtparkcounseling.com
